Raung Jagat Choir

workshop, 2023

pt. I

Raung Jagat is a flexible, improvisation-based choir system that can be adopted and implemented by anyone, emphasizing an inclusive and experimental approach. This system is designed as an effective framework for amateur singers to easily familiarize themselves with vocal improvisation. The methods in the Raung Jagat system are straightforward, serving as guidance or inspiration for exploring the human voice, especially for those who are not accustomed to improvising spontaneously without relying on conventional songs or scales. The primary focus of the Raung Jagat workshop sessions is not to create vocal music composition, but to educate participants on the diverse sounds of human voice, appreciating each sound while emphasizing the importance of listening to others‘ voices. That is why everyone is welcome to join the Raung Jagat workshops and performances, especially those who lack confidence in their own voice or have no experience using their voice in public settings. An ideal Raung Jagat workshop session involves 5-25 participants standing in a tight circle formation. It is crucial for participants to stand as close as possible to each other, including the conductor, who is positioned in the center of the circle. Generally, each Raung Jagat workshop session begins with an introduction about vocals and their connection to self-exploration and the surrounding environment. Following this, participants are introduced to the Raung Jagat symbols and proceed with practical exercises accompanied by coaching. Each Raung Jagat workshop typically concludes with a public performance. Anyone who has attended a Raung Jagat workshop is allowed to start their own Raung Jagat class or adapt the Raung Jagat system to meet the specific requirements of their application.

Vanja Dabić

is a pianist from Belgrade, Serbia. In her musical practice, she explores the wide variety of musical forms, from dense repetitions of organs to the echoing soundscapes, often times seemingly void of a tonal base. In her works she mainly uses keyboard instruments, but also several traditional instruments played in an unorthodox way. She performed actively as a member of the Tse-tse Fly Middle East Collective (DBX), Kino Pleme (SRB), and often collaborates with artists who treat sound as a vehicle for exploration and spiritual connection to both the outer space and inner worlds.
