VILLAGE FOOLS
video performance, 2023
– an ongoing project of improvised dance/performance exploring the idea of carnivalesque from the point of view of movement and the body. The Carnivalesque spirit theorised by Mikhail Bakhtin plants the seed of subversion into ordinary life by turning the world and its power hierarchies upside down.
– this piece sees two bodies interacting, at times in harmony and other times in friction with each other and their surroundings. Individuals in society are constantly entangled in power relationships, constantly grappling with internal and external constraints.
– the carnivalesque spirit thrives on ambiguity, parody, and the laughter that arises from challenging established rules, from mocking what subjugates us. This piece celebrates the beauty and subversive power of playfulness and improvisation as tools for liberation and freedom.
