Hotel Europa

is a long-term project that explores places historically established for  temporary lodging in Austria’s tourism sector. Such as hotels, guesthouses, and recreational facilities. Once designed for rest, recreation, or leisure, many of these sites have lost their original function and are now offered as shelters to accommodate people fleeing the war in Ukraine, as well as refugees, and displaced people from other regions .

In these spaces,  inhabitants coexist in a strange state where “temporary” becomes permanent. Without a safe place to call home, people cannot choose their surroundings and must adapt to what is available, adjusting their needs accordingly. As a result, the places themselves change, their image and appearance shaped by the presence of their now long-term inhabitants.
